The Compromise of 1877

Also called the wormley house bargain, After the disputed Election of 1876, republican leaders and southern democratic leadership agreed to allow the republican ballots in the disputed states , including South Carolina, to be certified. Rutherford B. Hayes  became president. In return, the democratic ballots would be certified on the state level. hayes also agreed to remove the remaining federal troops in the south. Reconstruction was over.
The inauguration of Rutherford B. Hayes helped end Reconstruction.
